In reviewing the letter from the Director of the Jefferson Parish Library thanking FOCLL for its $500.00 contribution and reporting on progress in restoring the Library following Hurricane Katrina, Crystal Lake Library Board member, Carol Heisler, reminded members of the importance of adhering to FOCLL’s stated purpose. It was therefore determined that FOCLL will not provide additional donation to Jefferson Parish Library. A note of encouragement and acknowledgement of their report will be sent to the Director by the FOCLL Secretary

Jeremy acknowledged the receipt of a resignation letter from Nancy as FOCLL Treasurer and requested suggestions for her replacement by the November meeting date.

Committee Reports:

Membership: Ann Wells reported the addition of four new members and the deletion of two current members. She will continue to send members the monthly FOCLL newsletter separately from the Minutes.

Fundraising: Barb reported sales of 143 mum plants for a total of $592.50. Seven plants were donated to the Library. Both the weather and the coordination of delivery of the plants from Countryside Nursery with arrival of volunteers made this first Mum Sale a success.

Coupons for the November 17th-19th and December 15th-17th Jewel Shop and Share Days will be available at the Library starting on Monday, October 27.

Director’s Report: Assistant Director, Karen Migaldi reported planting of the donated mums at the Library. She noted that the Crystal Lake Public Library was ranked tenth in the nation for its population group by Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings. Tickets for the Jenkinson events are still available. On November 7th, John Williams from WGN radio will be serving as moderator for the debate between Jefferson and Roosevelt at the Raue Center. Also at the Raue on November 8th will be an opportunity to meet Jenkinson as Jefferson is a 6:00 p.m. reception catered by 1776 restaurant. Teachers in School District 155 have been providing funds for high school students to attend events in the Sixth Annual Great American Series fundraiser for the Raue and the Library’s Foundation.

Library Board Report: Carol Heisler represented the Board and invited any members interested to attend Board meetings at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Library’s Ames Room. There will also be a meeting on November 11th.

Old Business: Jeremy reported that historical reenactor R.J. Lindsay does have some dates available for a FOCLL-sponsored presentation and we will be seeking a date as soon as possible for an event to mark the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth. Jeremy suggested more frequent small events as FOCLL fundraisers. Lindsey will check his schedule for availability for a FOCLL-sponsored performance. A January or February date will be sought which will coordinate with the celebration of Illinois’s Abraham Lincoln birth.

Book donations for the annual FOCLL Book Sale are ongoing. Logistics of sorting the books (currently housed at Jeremy’s residence and moving them to the Library for the sale were discussed. Fran advised that the Cutting Edge collects left over books from book sales as does Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry.

Book marks for the Sale will be available at the Library soon.

New Business: Renewal of FOCLL’S Friends of the Library USA membership was approved. The next FOCLL meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th.. There will be no December meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:53 p.m after many thanks to Nancy for her service as FOCLL treasurer.

Respectfully submitted,

Elizabeth Puchmelter

Recording Secretary.
